Report Builder 2005.1 hangs when opening a report

 Report Builder hangs when opening some .qrp files

There is a known problem when opening some reports in Report Builder 2005.1 and 2005.1 PTF1. The Report Builder hangs when opening some .qrp files. 

Problem Description:

Report Builder hangs when opening a report with no detail block lines available to display. This happens under one or more of the following conditions:

   1. 'Suppress Line Spacing' is added to all lines in the detail block.
   2. 'Conditional Display' property is set on the detail block.
   3. 'Conditional Display' property set on all items in the detail block.

The same report will not have any problems when running through a TD application with data.

This regression is related to the implementation of the sample data feature in the Report Builder 2005.1. To display the sample data, at least one line from the detail block should be able to be displayed. This is not possible if all lines in the detail block have the 'Suppress Line Spacing' property set and/or the window objects (data field, background text etc) or the detail block itself have the 'Conditional display' property set. Under these circumstances the Report Builder has no rows to display, it gets into an infinite loop and then hangs. 

Workaround:

The workaround is as follows:

   1. Avoid adding 'Suppress Line Spacing' to all the lines in the detail block.
   2. Avoid adding 'Conditional Display' to the detail block itself.
   3. Avoid adding the 'Conditional Display' to all the items in a line.



Status of the Defect:

This problem is logged as a high priority defect 82588 with GUPTA. We understand that this is a serious problem for our customers as they are not able to open some qrp files to make any changes. GUPTA hopes to have this issue addressed in the next major release TD2006 or in TD2005.1 PTF2 if possible.
